Car Buying or Renting

Having a car in Anguilla is a must. Even though there is a bus system to take you to/from school, you need to be able to get to the grocery store, etc. Below are prices and people you can contact prior to arriving to the island.

RENTING

Shaquille Lake at George Hill Tire Center: 1-264-235-0049 (What’s App)

  • $275/month (no deposit required)
  • Shaquille is the most honest car rental service. He was will keep the car maintained, and for $20, he will detail and wash your car while you are at school. He will take care of all of the registration, your license ($25/3 months), and the insurance. He is very friendly, and is not driven by $$ like many car rental people on the island.

Cleves Car Rental

  • $300/month

There are other people who do car rentals, but many times they will try to stiff you. Make sure you DO NOT pay for more than $300/month.

Gas stations are located around the island. They are not open 24/7, so please make sure you get gas before you are in a troubled situation late at night. Gas is more expensive here than back home since it is imported. The cost is around $5.62 US/gallon. You must be prepared to pay in cash! They do not accept cards at any gas stations.

Depending on where you live, expect to pay between $30-50 every 2 weeks.

BUYING

Some students on the island choose to purchase a car. I only know two students who have purchased a vehicle and have not had issues with it. Even though you are wanting to be cost effective, you do not want to end up with a vehicle that stops running after a month. I could currently name four students who cannot drive right now since their purchased car is non-functioning at this time. In addition to this, it can be time consuming to deal with vehicle maintenance, maintaining the registration, and insurance.
